There is one thing that all bloggers can’t get enough of, traffic. There isn’t a much better feeling than getting new traffic and rankings, right?
That’s why in this article we are going to take a look at how to increase blog traffic quickly. The strategies in this article are quite general, so they will work for whatever type of blog you have.
But, it is important that you follow the steps closely, otherwise you’re not going to see any results with the methods covered.
How To Increase Blog Traffic Quickly & Continuously
To increase our blog traffic, we have to take 3 simple steps.
Fix our site’s problems
Improve existing keywords
Ranking For New Keywords
And, that’s all we’re going to do. We’re going to fix any problems that are stopping us rank or damaging our search performance and then we’ll give Google what they want.
Before I walk you through the entire process, you are going to need a tool to help you. I recommend SEMrush for this, as it has all the features that we need for this.
The reason why I recommend SEMrush is because it’s the perfect all-in-one SEO software for bloggers, meaning it is the only tool you will need. Plus, it constantly helps you increase your traffic, so it pretty much pays for itself.
The first step to increasing your blog traffic quickly is fixing any problems with your site, as these are holding you back. If you don’t do this first, then the next steps will not work as well or could even be useless.
You may also think that your site is all good, but it’s still better to first audit your site as sometimes the problems can be quite hard to spot.

Go through the quick setup if you haven’t already and once you are done, SEMrush will give you an Audit of your overall site health.
The main errors to look for are things like broken link errors, duplicate content, thin pages (unless it’s for a reason), and all this type of stuff. SEMrush tells you everything that could potentially be wrong with your site, so some things aren’t that important.
For example, you’ll get errors saying that the title tag text is too long which I don’t think will affect your rankings, as long as it still looks good so that you get a good CTR. SEMrush will tell you how important each one is, but do use your common sense as well.
It may take a little time, but you want to go through and fix all the big errors. I must admit, I don’t really like technical SEO myself, I do the bare minimum and always aim for 85+% site health.
The main things that you want to fix are the errors that could actually stop you from ranking like:
The second step that you want to take before moving on is getting a backlink audit.
Backlink audits will help you identify toxic links which may be harming your rankings, or risk your site getting penalized. At the top of your SEMrush dashboard, select the SEO toolkit and then you will see it under backlinks.
Run the audit and take a look at the links SEMrush suggests are toxic. SEO isn’t just maths, so take these as warnings that you need to double-check. Sometimes, SEMrush will tell you that certain links could be toxic, but they could be fine.
Again, you have to use your common sense and not blindly follow the recommendations. For example, I used to have two sites and as I was the owner of both of them, I had one in the footer of the other which SEMrush flagged as potentially harmful because this is often where hacked links are placed.
As links will usually increase your rankings, removing the wrong links can decrease your rankings, so be careful. If links blatantly look like spam or they look like you’ve done suspicious link-building, then you can disavow them.
But, always double-check before doing so.
2. Improving Existing Keywords
Once you have removed all the issues from your site, you can start to take a look at how you can increase your rankings.
The fastest way to do this is by taking a look at the keywords that are already ranking, as Google already likes your pages for those keywords. Our process for this is also quite simple, we’ll look for keywords that are on pages 2-3 and take a look at why the higher positions are ranking above us.
Like many SEO campaigns & methods, there are only 3 steps to this as well.
Find the keywords
Again, it’s nothing complicated, we’re simply going to identify what needs to be done for us to increase our positions.
Step 1: Find The Keywords That Are Worth It
Before you can improve your pages for keywords that are already ranking, you need to get all the keywords.
To do this, go to domain analytics and type in your URL. Then scroll down to the keywords and filter all results between positions 2-20, you can go higher as well if the keywords will bring in revenue by increasing their positions.
But, as you probably know, the more you have to increase, the harder of a task it is.
Choose a few that matter the most to you i.e have the best potential for revenue if they were on page 1.
Step 2: Analyze
Once you have got keywords that fit the criteria above, you’ll need to find out what the results on page 1 are doing.
For this, compare your:
Try to identify the differences between your pages and the sites that are ranking on the first page. For your content it may be on-page optimization content length, terms used or topics covered. By comparing, you’ll usually be able to identify something that you need to improve. You can also use the SEMrush content writing assistant to get this right.
After, that you also want to compare both of your internal and external backlinks. SEMrush has several tools to help you with this as well, for example, the backlink gap tool. Here, you can add your competitors URLs and SEMrush will find all the common links they have, but you don’t.
Or, you can also look at the particular pages to get an idea of the quantity and quality of links your competitors have. If you have better content than your competitors, then it shouldn’t be too hard for you to get the same links.
Take a note of everything that you need to get to page 1 on each keyword that you want to. I usually like to start with the ones closest, as they can have an impact the quickest.
Note down what they have that your page doesn’t in terms of content and links.
Step 3: Execute
The 3rd step is to execute and get everything on your list. Take a look at the differences noted in your content and improve it, until you have better content than the page 1 rankings.
For your links, you can try to mimic your competitors and get all the links they have.
You can even reach out to the sites linking to them and ask whether they can switch the links. I covered this in a little more detail in my SEMrush keyword research guide.
If they have many more internal links, then you can build internal links of course as well. The point is, you should try to do what your page 1 competitors are doing, but also improve it so that you eventually rank above them.
If you have better content, better and more links then Google will have no choice but to rank you.
3. Ranking For New Keywords
Finally, you can also repeat the entire process but with new keywords.
Again, it’s quite simple and only takes 3 steps that are almost identical.
This time, we’re doing the exact same as last time, but instead of improving our content, we are creating it from scratch.
Insert competitors URL into domain analytics to find all their keywords
Type some related keywords to your niche into the keyword magic tool, look at suggestions
Look at keywords you rank for, but haven’t covered (then a separate page will probably perform well)

Step 2: Create Content
The second step is to create the content, but you do want to analyze first to get an understanding of what Google wants. Take a look at the word length, common headings and terms used, so that you know what Google is looking for.
Again, the aim here should also be to do what’s working, even better.
Step 3: Build Links
Once you have your killer content written out, you’ll need to build links. In some cases, you won’t even need links but again, it depends on what your competitors have. If they have links, you’ll need them too.
The link building process here is the same, you can try the skyscraper technique (i.e reach out to sites linking to your competitors) or you could also do guest posts.
Why You Should Continuously Work On These Points
If you continuously work on improving your existing keywords and adding new pages that beat your competitors’, your traffic is going to explode over time.
You’ll build a lot of trust and authority and with time it will become easier to rank.
I recommend that you use SEMrush and work through each keyword that you want to rank for. If you do this, for 1-2 years, you’ll really start to grow your blog.
There is no doubt that SEMrush is a killer marketing tool for online businesses. However, it can be just as useful for bloggers that are looking to grow their audience.
In this article, we are going to take a look at the 6 best SEMrush features for bloggers to help you grow your blog. A lot of these features that we are going to be talking about can combine extremely well, but we’ll cover that in a little more detail throughout this article.
So, let’s take a look at how you can use SEMrush to grow your blog.
1. Keyword Magic Tool
The keyword magic tool is probably my favorite SEMrush feature, as it helps you spot new opportunities of SERPs that you can rank on. SEMrush will also accurately analyze how hard it is to rank, as well as how much competition there actually is.
Combined with the search volume data, you can then use this to find out which keywords are worth your time. The Keyword Magic tool will also give you several other keyword suggestions related to the terms that you type in which can also help you spark some ideas.
If you would like to go into a deeper analysis of the SERPs, you can also use the Keyword Magic Tool to do so. The tool will also show you other data like the SEMrush authority score or the backlinks to each particular page on the SERP which also helps you understand the difficulty.
Tracking positions is essential to know how your site is performing. If you would try to track them manually, it would just be way too hard, especially if you have 100’s of keywords.
The good news is, when you use SEMrush you won’t need an external rank tracking tool. As a blogger, you probably have some keywords that you care about more than any others and some that you’re not really too bothered about.
What you can do in this case is track them all, but only highlight the ones that you care about. You can then use filters to find those keywords quickly and choose to only receive email notifications on those particular terms.
The reason I suggest you do this is that you probably post regularly. This means you’ll probably rank for hundreds if not thousands of keywords which would make it quite hard to keep an overview.
Either way, position tracking is another essential tool that helps you understand how your blog is doing so that you can take any actions if needed. Plus, it also helps you with detailed analytics for your positions, if you ever want to get deeper insights into your rankings.
SEMrush is great at helping you understand what type of backlinks you need to rank.
You can see all of your own & competitors backlinks with tons of data. This will help you if you would like to rank for a particular term, as you can identify the links your competitors have, mimic them, and eventually get better ones as well.
You can also identify toxic or bad links that could damage your site using the backlink audit tool. After identifying them, you can double-check whether you would like to keep them or disavow them via Google search console.
There is also a range of other metrics that you can check such as:
Referring Domains count
Root domain count
Top used Anchor text
Combining the backlink tools inside of SEMrush with the keyword magic tool which we spoke about earlier allows you to find out exactly what it takes to rank.
4. Topic Research
Finding out whether you can rank is not of much use unless you have a killer advantage in finding topics.
And, that’s exactly what SEMrush gives you with extensive topic research tools. The way it works is that you type in a topic or a keyword and SEMrush will show you dozens of ideas that you can use in your next few blog posts.
If you have ever used AnswertThePublic, SEMrush has the exact same but a lot more.
Using SEMrush you can also find previous articles that have done well i.e been shared a lot or gained a lot of links. You can use this as inspiration by analyzing why they have done so or you could potentially create a new post on the same topic, but make something even better.
If the first post did well and you create something even better, then chances are, your posts will perform well.
5. Writing Assistant & Content Template
SEMrush also helps you create content that will rank.
It does this by taking a look at what’s already ranking and taking patterns of what Google likes to see for the particular SERP. This includes things like word count, readability, headings, and keyword density. This is, of course, just a guideline but it helps you understand what is working at the moment.
If others are ranking, then you know that’s what Google is looking for. It will also show you some recommended keywords which your competition has commonly used.
This is just another feature to help you with a particular part of the blogging process which is writing optimized content.
6. Social Media Posting + Analyzing
Something that I never even noticed up until a couple of months ago, was that SEMrush actually lets you post to your social media channels.
As a blogger, this can of course be really helpful as it lets you share your new blog posts to your social media channels. The social media tool also has detailed analytics (very detailed!). I’m pretty sure external social media tools don’t have analytics as detailed as this, as SEMrush lets you perform all kinds of tasks on social media too.
For example, you can look at your competitors’ posts and sort them by engagement. Now you just have to find out what makes the best posts so successful and can do the same for some of your future posts.
I like that SEMrush also helps you with the tasks indirectly related to SEO, Blogging, etc. as this way you don’t need to get an external tool for them.
How SEMrush Helps You With The Entire Blogging Process
The reason SEMrush is rated so highly among bloggers is that it helps you with the entire process of posting a new post. There isn’t another tool that does this. While some tools do one particular task well (for example, Ahrefs analyses backlinks well) SEMrush does it all, for the same price.
SEMrush pretty much holds your hand from the point where you are looking for content ideas to writing the content and analyzing results.

If you stick around through this review, I’m not only going to show you what’s inside of this awesome affiliate program, but I will also show you some cool ideas and strategies on how you can promote SEMrush.
And, believe me, once you see the juicy commissions SEMrush has to offer, you will probably want to get a piece of the cake.
Plus, who doesn’t like promoting a product that is truly helpful and offers tremendous benefits?
Since then, with over 5,000,000 members, it has become one of the most popular tools for SEO and PPC on the market.
Plus, it’s even used by some of the biggest tech companies in the world including eBay, HP, and Quora.
What Is The Target Audience?
Thanks to the long list of features that SEMrush offers, the target audience is extremely broad.
This means you have a wide choice of audiences you can choose from when promoting SEMrush.

Commissions, Payments & Sticky Cookie
Let’s talk money.
The SEMrush affiliate program is outstanding in this aspect. Not only does it offer high commissions, but it also has a killer sticky cookie and a low payment threshold.
SEMrush is a SaaS tool and if you have been an affiliate for a SaaS tool before, you will know that they are often quite generous and pay 20-40% commissions.
And, SEMrush is no different. It pays big juicy 40% commissions, recurring commissions.
This means, if you refer someone and they pay $99 per month, you’re going to earn $39.98 per month. Not bad right?
Now, imagine you refer 100 people, suddenly you’re earning $3980 per month… pretty lucrative to say the least. Plus, if you refer some agencies or bigger businesses to SEMrush, they’re likely going to go on the bigger plans because of their needs, so you will earn even bigger commissions.
Of course, referring 100 people does not happen overnight and you will have to build up an audience first, but I just wanted to highlight what’s possible if you put the effort into promoting SEMrush consistently.
Also, it does depend on whether you make sales, so earnings are in no shape or form guaranteed, just like with any other affiliate program.
Payments & Threshold
The SEMrush affiliate program allows two payment methods which are PayPal and Wire Transfer.
For PayPal there is only a $50 threshold which is insanely low compared to other affiliate programs, especially considering the commission and price levels.
To put this into context, the Fiverr affiliate program which pays much smaller commissions has a PayPal threshold of $100.
SEMrush does have a $1000 threshold for Wire Transfer which is quite common. So, in the beginning, make sure to withdraw to PayPal as the Threshold is much lower.
Now, while that cookie is there if they purchase SEMrush, the sale will be accredited to you.
Some affiliate programs don’t have sticky cookies, but SEMrush has a 10-year sticky cookie. This means, if you send somebody over to SEMrush and they purchase in that 10-year lifetime span of the sticky cookie, you’re going to earn the commission.
A 10-year sticky cookie is basically a lifetime sticky cookie. In this time, SEMrush will also run retargeting ads which will increase the likelihood of them purchasing SEMrush tremendously.
This is something I’m a big fan of, as it’s just going to make it so much easier to earn commissions.
The promotional material is something that impressed me about the SEMrush affiliate program.
It has a huge (and I mean huge) selection of promotional material ranging from landing pages to free courses. And, it’s not like they just give you a couple of each type of promotional material, you get a huge selection.
The promotional material is not only available in English, but also in Spanish, German, French, and Russian.
Let’s start by talking about the landing pages and links that you can promote.
The selection is enormous and there is a landing page for each main feature that SEMrush has.
For example, if you want to promote SEMrush for the use of Keyword research, you can send your audience to this landing page:
I also like that the CTA is “Get Free Trial”, as that makes it compliant with GDPR and similar types of rules, as it doesn’t make a promise without the user getting a free trial.
They have landing pages like this one for all the main features such as (but not limited to):
Plus, they also have a wide range of other landing pages including blog posts, squeeze pages, and more. In case that wasn’t enough, you can also create deep links to any SEMrush page you wish.
In terms of deep links and landing pages that you can choose from, I must say SEMrush kills it.
Free Courses + E-Books
You don’t even have to create your own resources to promote SEMrush, as SEMrush has done it for you.
There are several free courses and E-books that you can send to your audience.
Once they arrive on any SEMrush page, they will be attributed to you if they purchase in the next 10 years, as we discussed earlier in the sticky cookie section.
This means if you give away these free resources using your affiliate link, for any user who clicks on them and later purchases SEMrush (even up to 10 years later), you will receive the commission.
The courses and E-books are on a variety of topics such as Keyword research and content marketing. They are also designed to promote the use of SEMrush and SEMrush will also retarget them with Facebook and Google Ads to increase conversions.
Again, I don’t think there is much more, that SEMrush could do to make it easier for affiliates.
Banners & Widgets
SEMrush does an outstanding job here too.
There are several banners that you can choose from, but what impresses me the most are the widgets that you can add to your sites.
Take a look at some of them and you will see why they convert well.
They have clear CTA’s and spark curiosity in your website visitor, so the conversions are often going to have much higher conversions than traditional banner ads.
Plus, all the widgets and banners come in a range of different colors to match your branding.
Offers & Campaigns
Lastly, we also have some offers and campaigns available to us.
Offers are available sometimes and as the name suggests are special offers that you can promote to your audience. It may be extended trials, discounts, or something along those lines.
Campaigns are components of the other promotional material suited to drive the user to one specific landing page. For example, there will be widgets, banners, and landing pages that all suit together which can help you optimize and target your campaigns as well as possible.
Here, take the example of the Content toolkit campaign below.
Your earning potential doesn’t just come from the commissions you can earn.
On top of that, you can also earn from the incentives and competitions inside the SEMrush affiliate program. And, there’s a lot of them…
New incentives are added every month and when you’re new, you’re going to get some additional incentives to give you an added motivational boost.
For example, if you refer 5 sales (initial sales, not rebills) shortly after joining, there is a $1000 bonus. Not bad huh?
Other incentives and competitions for everyone usually include writing a specific piece of content and submitting it via email, the best ones can then win cash prizes. Winning pieces of content are also often shared on their social media channels to help you gain some exposure.
Again, the SEMrush affiliate program smashes it here as there are always incentives available. For example, right now in my SEMrush affiliate dashboard, there are 5 different incentives/Competitions I can take part in one of them has a $12,000 prize pool.
I haven’t needed the support for the affiliate program, but I’m going to assume it’s pretty good. Why?
First of all, the general support for SEMrush is pretty with extremely responsive email support and also phone support.
Plus, when you make your first SEMrush affiliate sale, your affiliate manager reaches out to you and talks to you about how you can make the sales more consistent. A company that does this probably has great support measures in place, otherwise, they would not have the time to give affiliates fantastic support which they didn’t even ask for.
No matter how great something is, there is always room for improvement.
That’s why I’m going to name 3 key things where I think the SEMrush affiliate program can improve.
Don’t get me wrong, the SEMrush affiliate program does an outstanding job in every single aspect, but I just thought I would name a couple of things that could make it even better.
All of these are just potential improvements, there is a reason this section isn’t named “cons” or anything along those lines. I may even be a little harsh here, as the affiliate program is already excellent.
Educational Material for affiliates
Firstly, the educational material for affiliates. It’s got tons of material on SEO and content marketing already which of course will also help affiliates, but I feel like there could be more tailored specifically towards affiliates.
The education hub is packed with cool videos on content marketing and SEO, but once you go to the “affiliate marketing” section, you will find 5 blog posts, some videos, and some great webinars.
So, you do get some very decent material, especially combined with the SEO and content marketing material that is helpful for affiliates too.
However, I feel like there could be maybe some videos that explain to a beginner how to promote SEMrush to people who need it.
Or some additional videos that could help spark a beginner’s mind on angles they could use to promote SEMrush. Compared to the rest of the educational section it just feels a little emptier.
Yeah, I’m probably being a little harsh here, especially given that this is an affiliate program, not some affiliate marketing course.
However, SEMrush has set its standard to go above and beyond, so I’m just naming some potential improvements. That being said, I’m a little affiliate and SEMrush is a globally-recognized leading SEM tool, so don’t take this too seriously.
Update: There will be more content coming in this section in particular, so this point is not as valid anymore.
My next improvement idea is email swipes.
Personally, I never really use email swipes when affiliate programs have them, as I feel nobody knows your audience better than you. Plus, SEMrush will of course follow up with the leads you send over.
But the only reason I mention this is that other affiliate programs have them, so it’s something that could help their affiliates too.
Also, I guess it could be helpful for the affiliates that aren’t native English speakers but promote to an English audience. I imagine they would find the templates fairly useful as they could edit them a little and grab ideas from them.
Another potential small improvement for the SEMrush affiliate program is having a Facebook group for affiliates.
I know there is the SEMrush Facebook group for paid members, but I think creating one for affiliates would not be a bad idea either.
Here the affiliate managers could update affiliates with news, monthly contests, and whatever else is suited.
Plus, the affiliates that have YouTube channels or host webinars could network together, help each other grow, and potentially have each other on as guests.
Again, it’s just an idea that could be a potential improvement. I must admit, I don’t even use Facebook groups a lot, but I feel like this is something that could add value to this already fantastic affiliate program.
As I did promise at the beginning of this SEMrush affiliate program review, I will also show you 5 ideas on how you can promote SEMrush.
Hopefully, they will spark some ideas on how you can promote SEMrush, as the commissions are great and the tool itself is even better.
1. Educating Your Audience Using a Course
The first and probably also the best converting way to promote SEMrush is through creating a course.
Doing so, you educate your audience on how to use SEMrush to gain the maximum benefits. Once your audience has the benefits in front of their eyes and a clear path on how to obtain them, why wouldn’t they join SEMrush?
Think about the problems SEMrush solves and the audience that has these problems. Now create a course showing those people how to solve those problems using SEMrush.
You can even use one of the courses SEMrush already has inside of their promotional material if you don’t want to create on yourself.
This way the only thing you have to do is send the right kind of people into the course.
Also, a good example of somebody who used a course to promote SEMrush is Craig Campbell SEO.
He created an entire course on building links and uploaded it on his YouTube channel.
In one of the videos (the one below), he educates his audience on how to use SEMrush and the benefits it brings.
He didn’t just create that one video, he gave away an entire course that helped his audience with link-building, something a lot of people struggle with.
The video above is just a good example of how educating an audience on how to solve their problems/gain benefits through using SEMrush can work well.
2. Resource Page on Your Website and Banners
A simple, yet effective way to promote SEMrush is in the recommended resources page of your website.
I have been meaning to set one up for myself, but I’m terrible at using Elementor and haven’t got round to it yet.
Anyway, if you have a website or even a social media page, setting up a recommended resource page can work extremely well too. Name the purpose/benefits of the tool and some people browsing that page might just pick up a trial.
It’s simple but can earn you some great commissions.
The same goes for banners and the awesome widgets SEMrush provides. I haven’t tested them out yet, as only a part of the audience on this blog is into SEO and blogging, but I might do.
However, if you have an audience into SEO, blogging, PPC, or similar topics, definitely give those tools a shot, as they can help you earn some nice commissions.
3. Informational Content

My first tip is to start small and make steps.
When starting your blog, you will want to start off with the lowest competition keywords and work your way up.
While you haven’t yet built up your authority and content relevance, you should go for the low-competition keywords.
Once you have built up your authority and content relevance, you can go for the higher-competition keywords.
By working your way up, you can grow consistently.

If they’re less popular, then there will be less reviews on them, meaning less competition.
From here, you can gradually build up your different keywords and content relevance.
Every popular niche has hundreds of sub-niches.
Sub-niches that you can dig into, cover the best, and rank for.
If you’re just covering the most generic parts of a niche that everyone has already heard thousands of times, you will find it hard to get anyone to listen to you.
But, if you cover sub-niches which the bigger guys’ have not covered as well, people interested will come flying.
Find Long-Tail Keywords
I feel like finding long-tail keywords is the most generic advice you hear everywhere.
But, it’s true.
Long-tail keywords are great, especially if they have some buyer-intent.
The way I like to find long-tail keywords for affiliate sites at least is taking a look at the problems that product solves.
Now, put yourself into the perspective of a potential customer and use Google to search about that problem.
Google will also show you suggestions and if Google shows you suggestions, that means people are sometimes searching for that keyword.
Play around with it, you can often find a mix of keywords that you can then cover which haven’t really been covered well before. If you are looking for long tail keywords, there are some great all-in-one SEO tools to help you do so.
SEO, Networking & Link-Building
Whatever your preferred method of traffic is, do it properly.
If your main focus is on getting traffic from Google, then take your SEO seriously.
