Affiliate Disclosure: Look, I'm working my ass off delivering value to you. So, yes this blog is monetized through affiliate products. They are true recommendations and if you purchase them, I probably earn a commission (at no additional cost to you).
How Much Money Do You Need To Start Affiliate Marketing?
You can simply join most affiliate programs for free, grab your link, and start promoting through free methods.
And, by the way, those are the only methods I would actually recommend if you’re going in with no money at all.
Although that’s not really how I started, those are the only two platforms where I have seen people succeed with the no investment approach.
But even on those platforms, you should be building an email list.
How Much Investment Do You Need For Affiliate Marketing?
Well, it depends on what path you want to go down.
In the table below, I have outlined a rough estimate for most of the main methods.
There you will find a technical amount and a recommended minimum.
I would really recommend going higher than the recommended minimum, but if you don’t just be prepared to put in a ton of work.
If you don’t, then be aware that you are competing with people who have 1000x more money to invest and probably do more work too.
|Method||Technical Amount Needed||Recommended Minimum|
|Blogging||$2-3 per month||$20-$30 per month|
|YouTube||0||$20 – $30 per month|
|Other Social Media||0||$20-30 per month|
|Paid Ads||$60 per month||$500 per month|
As you can see, $20-$30 per month is pretty common.
This because you will always need an autoresponder such as GetResponse.
Well, you won’t “need” but it will probably double your sales.
What Tools Do You Need?
What you really need is this:
- Email marketing tool ($20-$30 per month)
- Keyword Research Tool (Blogging/YouTube)
- Adspend And/Or Time
- Hosting (If Blogging)
- Other (Domains, Social Media Automation, etc.)
If you do want to start a blog, make sure to check out my free e-book.
It’s really not a lot for a business.
You probably pay more in useless subscriptions such as Netflix, Spotify, and stuff like that.
If you do, then I’m sorry but you need to get your priorities straight.
Blogging costs $3 per month, Netflix costs $10 per month.
Cancel your Netflix right now.
Average salary of a blogger who has published 3x per week consistently for 5 years is between $100,000 – $250,000 (financialsamurai)
5 Years of Netflix 3x per week = lost $600 + time

How Much Money Do You Need To Start Affiliate Marketing
Well, personally, I would say to start $30 per month is enough.
However, as soon as you start making money, you should reinvest it.
For example, if you start blogging, you can read my free e-book and it will tell you how to do keyword research without an expensive tool.
But once, you start making at least some money, you probably want to invest in a more expensive tool such as SEMRush.
“I Want To Start For Free, What Should I Do?”
Well, here you have 2 options:
1. Work your ass off with methods like YouTube or Twitter
Or, just take on an extra hour or so at work per month.
If you don’t have a job, then maybe you should get one first.
Other businesses, take months/years of big upfront investment, you have an opportunity right in front of your eyes for $20-$30 per month.
Be Aware Of This…
When I am talking about this small investment of $20-$30 per month, you will have to invest a lot of time upfront.
There is always the equation of time and money.
You will not make anything significant for months, maybe even a year or two.
I never understand it when beginners want to make quick money over-night.
Usually, also with little work and little monetary investment.
Affiliate marketing is a business.
There are some companies out there that invest (hundreds of) thousands of dollars before becoming profitable.
Who the hell do these people think they are that they can make quick money overnight?
Who You Are Up Against
And, as I mentioned earlier, there are some people who invest $20,000+ per month into their affiliate marketing business.
Some who invest even more.
And, they still work like crazy.
So, if you’re there investing $20 per month, you need to put in a lot of work.
You can’t invest 1000 times less than them and work less too.
Especially, in competitive niches.
That will not work, go do something else instead.
Look at Neil Patel.
Yeah, he isn’t in the affiliate marketing space, but he still writes everything on his blog himself.
Often, his guides have over 10,000 words.
And, he paid $200,000 per month for over a year before even monetizing his tool Ubersuggest.
When trying to rank in Google, you are competing with people like this.
So, be ready to work!
