Getting The Right Mindset To Start Affiliate Marketing

How to get the right mindset for affiliate marketing

Okay, so how do you get the right mindset for affiliate marketing? Well, first of all, you need to understand a couple of things.

If you have heard of affiliate marketing and you want to start it, I am guessing it’s probably because, in the long term, you want to make a larger income than what you are making now. Or, you want to start another business in the future but you want to try something easier first to get to know the world of online business. Maybe, both of those apply to you.

First of all, assuming you want to just create a larger income for yourself, you need to understand that a larger income comes at a price. It’s not free. You have to pay. Either with time or money, or both. If you don’t pay, you are not making the purchase of a larger income. Be ready to pay the price, no matter how high it goes.

Whether the price is one year, two years or even three years of your time, it doesn’t matter. Will it still be worth it?

Of course, it will! After you paid the price, you will benefit for years to come. Not only that, but you will also probably fall in love with business or even just affiliate marketing and your work will become fun. When your work becomes fun, you start to work more. If you work more, the benefits will be even bigger. In fact, they will be life-changing.

Just do it. Pay the price, no matter how high it is.

Now for the second reason, you want to start another business in the future. Of course, that’s natural. In fact, I have some plans later down the line too. However, there are a few things you must note:

1. Affiliate Marketing is one of the easiest businesses out there, if not the easiest. If you can’t be successful at affiliate marketing, you will nine out of ten times not be successful in any other business. It’s the truth. If you can’t just do the selling for established products, you will probably have a hard time doing everything else as well as selling for just about any product in the world.

2. If you do affiliate marketing for a couple of years, you will learn so many valuable skills. These will help you in your own business a lot. Not only that, but you will also get an understanding of these skills so you will be able to make better choices when employing and partnering with people as you will understand their skills better.

3. To start a big serious business, you will need some big serious cashflow. Affiliate marketing is the door to that first big serious cashflow. Not only that, but it’s also the perfect path to learn some very important skills along the way.

As you see, if you do want to start another business or you want to increase your income in the long term, affiliate marketing is probably one of the best options that you have.

Of course, there are also other easy businesses such as Drop servicing, dropshipping, etc that are also good for beginners. These businesses also have huge potential and are great for beginners.

If you are more into one of those businesses, then, by all means, you can start them instead.

Making Sure You Are Going Down The Right Path

So, you chose your niche, products to promote and traffic method, but how do you know you are going down the right path?

In reality, you need to prepare yourself for the worst. For example, let’s say you are going into content creation. To prepare yourself for the worst, you should ask yourself if you are ready to put six months’ work into something that isn’t going to pay you at all.

Of course, this will often not be the case. However, by preparing yourself for this case, you won’t get discouraged when you don’t make any money. Additionally, you will probably face a positive surprise that will motivate you.

Likewise, if you choose to run paid ads. You should be ready to lose a big chunk of your budget to find a winning campaign. I always say only invest what you are willing to lose into paid ads, whether or not you listen to me is up to you. Another thing I always say is that beginners shouldn’t go into paid ads, but you can do what you want.

Just make sure you are aware of the risks involved.

Risks Involved

Next, I want to talk about the risks that are involved in affiliate marketing. I’m not going to tell you that there are no risks, however, I will show you a method that you can use to eliminate all risks in the long term.

By the way, the risks in affiliate marketing are extremely low compared to other businesses. I think you will find it hard to find a business that carries fewer risks than affiliate marketing.

Monetary Loss

The first risk that you are facing in affiliate marketing is monetary loss.

Monetary loss is especially a risk in paid ads, although it could even be a risk in content creation. Is it bad? No, not at all. Every time you lose money, you will learn. Whatever you learn will be worth more than the money you lost. You have to lose to win. It’s that simple.

There is no business out there that carries no risk. Or, at least I have never heard of one. You will always be risking something, even if it’s not necessarily money. If you are the kind of person that cannot deal with monetary loss, then affiliate marketing is not for you, or even business in general.

Losses are wins in the long term. Unless you don’t learn from them. Even, if you go into content creation, you will probably not make a lot of money in the first couple of months, but you will still spend money on software, promotion and other essential things.

Meaning, you will probably face a monetary loss. What you have to understand is as I said earlier, losses are wins in the long term. In the beginning, you will take hit after hit, but when the hits get less, they will start going into the other direction, the direction of profit.

If you then keep it going, that profit will get bigger and bigger. So, be ready to take monetary losses. Or at the very least, plan a very good route around them. For example, let’s say you have absolutely 0 to spend on affiliate marketing. You are just breaking even with the bills that you have to pay and you can spend absolutely 0.

However, you have a lot of time. In this case, you will want to create as much YouTube content as possible. Drive traffic from Twitter and other methods too for free. Then, you finally made one or two sales and you got $100. You will want to go and spend this $100 on whatever you need.

Maybe, it’s an email autoresponder. Or, it could also be your twitter automation tool. Maybe, you are paying it to a bigger YouTuber to be able to upload a guest post on their channel. I think you get the point. If you have 0 to invest, you can’t be picky with what methods you choose.

All you can do is get started and work like crazy. Start building your business. Then, you will want to reinvest the profits to build your business quicker. You can’t just spend it on some luxuries or whatever you want.

You won’t build a business without taking hits. It’s just not possible.

Time Loss

So, the next risk is time loss.

If you start affiliate marketing, you will have to invest a lot of time. No matter what methods you choose to go with, you will have to put in months of work. Whether you are running Facebook ads, creating YouTube videos or blogging, you will have to invest quite a lot of time.

Unless, you pay for others to do it all for you, which of course is quite expensive. Anybody telling you otherwise has no clue or they are lying to you. Affiliate Marketing is a real business that requires real investment whether that be time or money. That investment is at risk. It always will be.

That means, if you fail or give up, you will have wasted a lot of your time. However, there is one way around that which we will speak about in the next section.

How To Eliminate All Risk In The Long Term

But… What if you can eliminate all that risk?

Well, you can in the long term. How?

By never ever giving up. No matter what challenges you face, you face them properly and crush them. If you don’t give up, you can’t lose. Even, if you are the worst affiliate marketer in the world, by not giving up, you will eventually make it.

In order for this to work, you have to be prolific too. You can’t just spend two years of your life not doing it properly for example, just tweeting affiliate links all day. Even, if you are amazing at growing social media accounts, just tweeting affiliate links is not the most effective way to earn an Income from affiliate marketing. Yes, one in a hundred people somehow manage it, but it’s still not very effective.

The whole idea of not giving up leading to guaranteed success requires you using real methods such as:

  • Paid ads
  • Creating YouTube videos
  • Blogging

Combined with email marketing. If you spend your whole time playing around not really putting effort into real methods, then no this idea will probably not work. Don’t get me wrong, there are some rare cases where it works, but these are very rare. Even then, I would recommend growing an audience first then selling. Although, I would really not recommend it. With that being said, as always it’s up to you though.

You might make a few sales, but it will be very hard to make a full-time income just off social media without any sort of email marketing.

You Can’t Just Try…

You can’t just play around and not be serious. This is what I call trying but not doing.

Look, try to stand up from your chair or bed right now. Try. You did it right? Exactly, you did it!

Trying doesn’t exist! It’s a lie. I am pretty sure, that I found this on a video from Dan Lok. However, I could not find the video so I could not embed it here. Feel free to check out his channel.

I hope you get the point. You can’t just say that you are tying, you have to DO. Why?

Because affiliate marketing relies all on you. If you don’t make sales, it’s not anyone else’s fault. You can’t blame it on anyone, it’s all on you. So, that’s also something you need to get into your head. If things aren’t working, you have to improve. It’s all on you. The product you are promoting doesn’t have to improve, you do.

That’s just something you need to be aware of before starting affiliate marketing. Every improvement will be a step closer to more sales. There is nothing that you can blame it on if you aren’t making sales. Nothing.

Affiliate marketing requires a certain type of mindset. If you want to start affiliate marketing, I hope that this post has helped you get an idea of the right mindset. Now, if you think that you are ready and you want to start through blogging, then I recommend reading my affiliate blogging guide.
