How To Boost Search Engine Optimization With Affiliate Marketing Blog: 7 Strategies

1. Write Long Articles (1890+ Words)

The first tip is to write articles that are at least 1890 words. Why?

Organic search results that rank on the first page on Google have an average word count of 1890.

That is the average and you should also consider all the infographics and very low-competition keyword results.

So, you should always write at least the average if you want to rank on the first page, which is why I am guessing you are here.

Of course, don’t just stuff your articles with low-quality paragraphs just to fill up the word count.

Try to write thorough and high-quality content.

2. Use Short URL’s

Using short URL’s is the next tip.

Google prefers pages that have short URL’s. So, make sure you aren’t using a long one!

There isn’t like a clear guideline to how short URL’s should be, however, my SEO plugin says 75 Characters.

Also, make sure that your URL doesn’t have the date in it, as this is unnecessary space being used.

Just try to make your URL as short as possible, while it still being relevant to your keyword.

3. Keyword Research

The next tip is good keyword research!

One reason for this being mentioned is because a lot of newer bloggers don’t do this!

Or, others go for really competitive keywords where the competition is simply too good.

If the competition is too good, as they have an older site with a lot more domain authority, backlinks, and social shares, then there will be very little chance of you ranking.

So, instead, go for keywords that you can rank for. Once you start building up your social shares, backlinks & domain authority, you can start going for those harder keywords.

Also, if you aren’t doing any keyword research at all, I suggest you start as it will increase your chances of ranking by a significant amount!

I mentioned some free keyword research tools in my 16 Free Affiliate Marketing tools, that you can use!

4. Add Share Buttons

The next tip is not only SEO related, but it can also help you gain some new readers through social media.

Social shares are also a ranking factor for Google and they also help build your domain authority!

So, social shares do also help in terms of SEO which means that simply adding social share buttons will help your SEO.

If you don’t know how to do this, it’s simple just go to plugins, then “add new” and search for Social Snap, it’s free.

Also, your readers sharing your content will bring in new readers as well, so this is definitely something that I recommend!

5. Optimize For Shares

The next tip is to optimize for shares.

Oh, and before I forget, if you are enjoying this post, I would really appreciate it if you shared this post 😉

See what I did there?

Also, there are some other ways you can optimize for shares too, for example, with “click to tweet” content.

It’s up to you, how you do it, but it’s definitely beneficial to optimize for social shares, for the reasons mentioned in the previous tip.

6. Check What’s Ranking #1

This tip is very basic, but it works wonders.

Before you target a specific keyword, just check what’s ranking #1 for that keyword.

Then you get an idea of what Google wants for this keyword. After you have got this idea, you can do what they are doing, but better.

By better, I don’t mean copy them and add one paragraph.

I mean, creating better content, better in every aspect.

More points, more thorough information, better explanations, etc. by doing this you will have a good chance of ranking #1.

Unless of course, their content is well-optimized for that keyword and they beat you on DA, PA, social shares, backlinks, relevance and so on.

7. Optimize For CTR

The next tip is to optimize for CTR.

If Google’s data shows that a big percentage of users who are searching for a specific keyword is clicking on the 3rd result instead of the 1st, they will probably move that result up.

So, it’s important to have an optimized snippet which shows in the search results.

Also, if nobody is clicking on the result, then Google will think that it’s not what people are looking for.

By optimizing, I don’t mean “clickbait” the hell out of it, otherwise, people who click on it will just leave.

This will also send bad signals to Google.

Instead, just make it look attractive and interesting while creating some curiosity.

8. Use The Keyword But Not Too Much…

Use the keyword that you are targeting, but not too much.

Never put the keyword above the user experience. If you can add the keyword into the URL, heading 1 and 2  and beginning of the content, then that’s great.

Also, don’t stuff the entire article that you are writing with a keyword, that’s just over-optimizing and will probably damage you.

Instead, just try to keep it natural!

9. Don’t Focus On Quality Or Quantity, you need both!

Often people try to put their focus on quality or quantity, the truth is that you need both.

Quality is something that you always need and in terms of SEO, you need quantity too.

Google likes to see pages that are updated frequently and it also increases your chance of writing articles that rank on the first page.

The more you write, the more chances you have of ranking(assuming that the articles are high-quality).

I also noticed on my own blog, when I post daily, I get a lot more traffic than when I don’t!

So, just try to write frequently, but also keep your posts high-quality!

10. Build-in related keywords

The next tip is to build related keywords into your posts.

Don’t just focus on one keyword, look for variations of that keyword, and build those into your article.

This will allow you to rank for the variations of that keywords, meaning you will get more traffic.

You can use any keyword tool of your choice to find variations of your keyword, then build them into your article in a natural way.

Again, don’t build them into your article in an unnatural way, just use these keywords to add even more value to your article.

11. Use Internal & External Links

This is another very basic tip, but make sure that you are linking to internal and external pages.

Google likes to see pages that link to relevant content. That includes internal and external content.

So, make sure you link to relevant content.

Also, another thing that you should always do is citing sources!

If you don’t cite sources, your rankings can be damaged!

12. Focus On User-Experience

This is something that I got from Neil Patel.

In one of his videos, he explains that the most important factor in SEO is the user experience.

He says that he always puts the user experience first, even if that sometimes means not being able to build in a specific keyword.

And look at how successful his pages are…

So, I think this is a good piece of advice that you should take.

After watching that video, I also changed my ways a little when it comes to writing blog posts.

13. Backlink Variety

The next tip is backlink variety.

This tip is for people who are already building backlinks.

Make sure that you have a variety of backlinks.

Don’t only have “do follow” backlinks, make sure to have some “no follow” links as well.

Also, don’t only have insanely high DA links to your site.

The reason for this is because you should only build natural backlinks.

Usually, there will be quite a lot of “no follow” backlinks in there too.

If you only have really high DA backlinks for a somewhat new site, this doesn’t look natural at all. If this is the case, Google may penalize you.

14. Guest Post

Guest posting is a great way to build high quality and relevant backlinks, which is why they are my next tip.

It’s pretty easy to find guest posting opportunities.

The first way to find guest posting opportunities is by simply googling for them.

Or, just reaching out to other bloggers in your niche.

So, because guest posting is a great way to build backlinks, guest posting made it on this list.

15. Build In Question Keywords

I know I have already talked about related keywords, but I also wanted to show you the extra value of question keywords.

When you build in question keywords and you rank #1 for them, you get a significant amount of more traffic.

This is for two reasons.

Reason #1: “People Also Ask”

The first reason is the people also ask section in the Google search results.

When you rank like the answer to one of these questions, Google will show it to people who are typing in related questions.

Then if your answer is interesting, users will click on it, meaning you gain extra traffic.

See the example below.

Reason #2: The Answer

If your answer is recognized as the answer by Google, you will get a separate spot at the top.

This will increase your traffic a lot, so again, building in a question keyword can be very beneficial.

The image above that showed the “people also ask” example, also shows an example for this purpose.

So make sure to build in question keywords!

16. Optimize Site Speed

Site speed is also another important factor.

If your site is slow, your Google rankings will be lower.

Also, a lot of people will instantly hit the “back” button in their browser.

Google will see that a lot of people are doing this and will move other results in front of you.

There are tons of different ways that you can make your site faster, so just put a little research into how you can do so.

Some basic ways of making your site faster include:

  • Compressing Images
  • Embedding videos from other sites
  • Deleting plugins that aren’t needed

17. Improve Old Content

The next tip is to actually go back and improve your old content.

Changing and updating your old content will show Google that the information shown on that web page is still relevant.

Also, when doing this you will also come up in the search results for related keywords that are set to “past week” or “past month”.

So, this is definitely something that I recommend you do, as it can have a great impact on your search rankings.

18. Make Your Site Mobile-Friendly

52.6% of all the traffic (in 2019) on the web is mobile. (Statista

This means that we need to optimize our site for mobiles. Otherwise, we will get bad user metrics and our rankings will suffer from it.

So, make your site mobile-friendly i.e it runs smoothly on mobile and the mobile readability is good too!

19. Contact, Disclaimers, Privacy Policy, etc.

Contact, Disclaimers, Privacy Policies and all those information fields are very important!

You need to add those to your website, otherwise, Google will not think that you are trustworthy! If you are missing this basic Information, then your site will find it a lot harder to rank!

I can’t tell you exactly which ones you need, as it depends on your Industry, but you should do some research.

For example, if you are an affiliate, you should add affiliate disclaimers.

I also believe that all Industries need contact information and privacy policies, but I may be wrong. Just make sure to do some research to see what your industry needs!

20. Don’t Worry About SEO Too Much!

Almost there!

The second to last tip is to not worry about SEO too much.

What you really should be focusing on is just producing quality content.

You can’t control when Google changes where you rank for specific keywords, so don’t try to control it! What Google really wants is quality content, so make that your main focus.

Also, when you focus on SEO too much, you lose valuable time and sometimes you end up over-optimizing your content.

Another thing is checking your search console multiple times per day, this is just a distraction.

Your main focus should always be high-quality content!

21. Use An SEO Plugin

Lastly, our final tip is to use an SEO Plugin.

SEO Plugins can help your SEO by giving you suggestions on what needs improving.

The most common ones are Rank math and Yoast SEO, they are both great.

Rank Math is completely free and better than the free version of Yoast SEO.

However, the paid version of Yoast SEO is better than rank math. So, it’s up to you which one you choose.

Also, don’t worry too much about the suggestions some of them aren’t that important.

Again, just make sure to focus on the user experience, but that doesn’t mean don’t optimize at all.

Sometimes, these plugins can give you great suggestions and help you keep an overview of things like keyword density.
