When researching email marketing or a number of online businesses, you may have come across ActiveCampaign.
So, what is ActiveCampaign used for?
In this article, I am going to cover everything you need to know about ActiveCampaign, when to use it and when not to use it.
And, if you don’t want to use ActiveCampaign, we’ll also take a look at some alternatives.
What Is Activecampaign Used For?
ActiveCampaign is an all-in-one marketing automation tool that offers email marketing, SMS marketing, and a CRM tool. ActiveCampaign helps businesses stay connected to their customers through their marketing communication tools.
ActiveCampaign has a lot of features, but we’re going to break them down into the most important parts.
Email Marketing Automation
Firstly, we have email marketing which is what ActiveCampaign is known for by a lot of people.
ActiveCampaign has some of the strongest email marketing tools in the industry.
Here are some of the features that ActiveCampaign has to offer:
- Action-based Automation workflows
- Split-testing (in automation sequences too!)
- Lead-tagging (this is basically where you segment your email list)
- Subscription Forms
You also get access to some beautiful templates and their drag & drop email builder.
SMS Marketing Automation
The next main feature is the SMS autoresponder.
Using ActiveCampaign, you can not only automate your email marketing, but also your SMS marketing.
You probably receive texts like this one below all the time.
With ActiveCampaign, you can send your customers texts like this too on auto-pilot.
Lastly, we have the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool.
ActiveCampaign also has a great CRM tool that will help you filter your contacts, so you know who is the most likely to purchase.
It also does a number of other things as you can see below and again, these processes are all automated.
- Contact & Lead Scoring
- Update Deals & Create Tasks
- Notify your sales team
Plus, what’s also quite cool about the ActiveCampaign CRM is that you can manage it from your Gmail account using the ActiveCampaign Gmail chrome extension.
It also easily integrates with over 280 different apps, you shouldn’t have any issues integrating with the software you are currently using.
The ActiveCampaign pricing heavily depends on how many contacts you have, whether you pay monthly or annually and which plan you are on.
Below, you can see the pricing for up to 500 contacts, but for the full pricing table, visit the ActiveCampaign website.
Should You Use ActiveCampaign?
While I think that all businesses should be making use of email marketing, I don’t think everyone has to use ActiveCampaign.
If you’re in need of the exact features that ActiveCampaign has to offer such as:
Then, yes you should definitely go for ActiveCampaign.
But, if you’re, for example, just looking for a landing page builder and the usual email marketing tools, then you probably have better options.
With that being said, ActiveCampaign does offer some of the strongest email marketing tools on the market, so keep that in mind.
If you’re unsure whether you want to use ActiveCampaign, you might like some of these alternatives.
The alternatives I mentioned below are in no particular order, as they are all good for their own purposes.
Firstly, we have GetResponse.
GetResponse offers a number of features such as:
- Email marketing tools
- Landing pages, funnels & webinars
- CRM (Not as good as ActiveCampaign)
If you’re looking for strong email marketing tools, alongside one of the best funnel builder and landing page builders, then GetResponse might be for you.
The pricing starts at as little as $15 per month and they offer a 30-day free trial!

The second alternative is Aweber, which can also be a good option.
- Landing page tools (Not as good as GetResponse)
- Email Marketing Tools (Again, not as good as ActiveCampaign or GetResponse)
However, it does only start at $19 per month and can include enough for most people to get started.
They also offer a 30-day free trial, so you can give it a shot if you would like to.
Lastly, we have Kartra which is a fantastic option if you are looking for much more than an autoresponder.
Kartra offers a tremendous amount of features including:
- Comprehensive Page Builder
- Membership Site builder
- Email Marketing Tools (Almost as good as ActiveCampaign!)
- Video hosting
- Affiliate Management
Now, that is what I call an all-in-one platform!
And, the best thing is, you can get access to all of these features, even in the basic plan starting at just $99 per month.
If these features are something you want to use, then you should definitely go for Kartra as it can save you a ton of money.
But, if not, then there isn’t really much point as there are cheaper options out there.
